A fellow classmate once said that Dave never really left AHS. He was an avid Atoms fan and spent time at the school well into adulthood. He was very generous with me. He gave me a tour of his beloved Memorial Stadium in Baltimore and his entire collection of Seattle Mariners (I transplanted to AHS from the Pacific Northwest) baseball cards. He always had a smile and a warm greeting for me.

I remember Dave in band as well as in musicals. He was really good, I was so not! I admire to this day a really greatly dedicated guy who was very kind and embracing to others.

I first met Dave Howell in 7th grade at Poe Intermediate.  We both played trumpet in the band.  He was a HUGE Orioles fan while I followed the perennial cellar-dwelling Washington Senators.  A couple of things I remembered about Dave is that he was tall and that he carried his trumpet to every class he attended.  He was exceptionally protective  of that trumpet. He also would always walk to his next class at a brisk Olympic-style walking pace.  I soon figured that if I could walk directly behind him, that he would serve as my 'blocking guard" allowing me to get to my next class so much faster.

Later in life, I saw Dave while attending a funeral that I officiated of a student that he cared for as a Teacher's Aide.  We were both pretty choked up about the circumstances, but I was so appreciative that Dave had been actively involved with this student and had been such a caring and protective presence in this young man's life.

While I have no statistics to qualify this next statement, nevertheless, I would venture to say that Dave Howell heard the Atoms Fight Song played or sung more than anyone on the face of the earth !
