Doug and I both sang together and dated for a time during and shortly after high school. He went college in NC and I visited him there. My music career separated us and he then dated my sister. It was during this time that he was thrown from a convertible driven by a "friend" high on cocaine - he looked as if sleeping when found by the side of the road. We were both devastated, but I don't believe my sister has ever gotten over his loss. We both sang at his funeral.
Doug was my next door neighbor growing up in Annandale.... He inherited the Washington Post paper rout from me (I inherited it from Doug Schulz). Doug would oversleep many mornings and then come and wake me up to help him deliver the papers (My bedroom was in the basement so he used to bang on the window) We would argue for about 1/2 hour and then I would always give in and help him. WE also did a lot of fun stuff as kids. In Sophmore year Doug , Jamie Provenzano and I were introduced to 3 guys from "Jefferson High" and started our Rock Bank, "Anthem" AKA "Stone Light" We thought we were going to Woodstock as performers. What a great time we had. Doug was the lead singer. It was a very sad day when we lost him in '73. I still miss him.
